Brian's Optik Optik 4 Pro
MidPrior-gen Optik flagship; still strong stiff-core option
Base price: $949·Style: butterfly·Level ceiling: AAA·Sizing: true
The Optik 4 Pro is the prior-generation flagship in Brian's Optik line, now cataloged as a mid tier as the Optik X4 takes over at the top. Intermediate and senior sizing, $949. It's a prior-gen pad in name only — construction is still pro-spec by most benchmarks, and the Primo-Slide system is the same one that makes the Optik X4 a slide-tech leader.
The stiff-core Optik profile is intact: aggressive thigh precurve, MAX Core stiff face, Primo-Slide inner edges. The difference from the Optik X4 is generation-level updates — materials refinements and possibly geometry tweaks in the X4 — rather than a fundamental step down in construction grade. Prior-gen flagship builds are often excellent value when priced as mid-tier.
At $949 against the Optik X4's $1,399, the $450 savings is real. The question is whether the X4's updates are worth $450 to you. For most AAA-and-below goalies, the answer is no.
Best for: AAA butterfly goalies who want Primo-Slide and stiff-core rebound output without current-gen flagship pricing; goalies who'd buy a prior-gen Bauer HyperLite or prior-gen True Catalyst for the same reason.
Not ideal for: goalies who want the latest Optik construction or need to verify warranty terms on prior-gen stock; hybrid goalies who'd be better in the Iconik 2 architecture.
Scores
Score breakdown
durability
4/5Prior-gen pro-spec construction — same build quality as when it was the flagship. No structural degradation from being prior-gen. Multi-season reviews from when it was new-gen are available and positive.
mobility
4/5Full pro-spec build weight. Not the lightest in the catalog but fast enough for AAA butterfly play. Same profile as the X4 above it.
rebound
5/5Stiff core delivers strong rebound output — same design intent as the X4. Prior-gen materials may have slightly different feel but same performance category.
sliding
5/5Primo-Slide carries through from the flagship generation. Same community-leading slide system as the Optik X4. No downgrade here.
comfort
4/5Aggressive precurve and pro-spec strapping are present. Prior-gen Optik strapping is functional but not at the level of True's Catalyst 9X3 Pro.
value
4/5Best value in the Brian's Optik line. $450 less than the Optik X4 for the same slide tech and a pro-spec stiff core. Strong pick for a goalie who specifically wants Brian's and doesn't need the latest generation.
resale
3/5Brian's niche brand status means slower turnover even on prior-gen stock. Resale price is fair but the buyer pool is small.
